Conferencia ITESM ,Qro

Responsive Honeycomb Morphologies [Gh3D]

Continuing with the experimentation and research of honeycomb morphologies and a as example for a Workshop I gave recently I developed a Grasshopper tool for creating a responsive skin system ,using my previous VB script component for creating honeycomb patterns.

Honeycomb Morphologies

A little preview of a Grasshopper definition I´m working on to generate a honeycomb structure system Im working to add several features , for example to be able to control the apertures of the systems according an external variable for example al the final work as well as the definition will be posted on my new site.

Waffle Ribs:Rhino Grasshopper

Yes ! the classic waffle structures , I think this kind of definitions are very useful specially to those starting in their way of parametric design and of course Grasshopper, they have a wide range of applications that can go from architectural projects to conceptual furniture like this quick example I made. Check it out here.

Finally the new designplaygrounds is here !!

Finally after many months of waiting I fianlly got the time to make an official website even do making this blog for the past year has been a great experience I thin its time to present my work in a more professional way, also I made the site to stay in touch with all the people who kindly visit my work I really worked hard implementing tools from different social media like : Twitter , Facebook, Didd , Stumble Upon etc.. all of the just to hear and share what you have to say.

Im also going to feature the work from other people so if you are making some interesting stuff please send it to me so i can show your work, Im working in some tutorials people keep asking me most of them regarding grashopper i think the new site will be an excellent plataform to distribute them.

In few words please visit my new site were you will soon find new works and more interesting content from other people www.designplaygrounds.com and don´t forget to friend me up on Twitter or Facebook. =)

Studio Banana collaboration

Last weekend I went to Madrid to visit the guys of Studio Banana and to give an introduction class of Parametric Design using Grasshoper for the students who attended the Rhinoceros Workshop of the studio, I had a great time visiting the studio and the people who works there. And I had the opportuniy to teach the studnets about the benefits of implementig parametric systems into their designs.

Parametric Design Workshop at Barcelona

I would like to invite all students of architecture and industrial design who live at Barcelona to attend our Workshop of parametric design oriented to sustainable projects , we will be teaching Rhino , rhinoscripts and Grasshopper as our tools for parametric and generative design. For more information please visit www.seed.cat . There are few places so hurry up!!

Rhino Grasshopper Wrokshop

Lately haven´t post anything new because I have been away from the computer for a couple of weeks planing my trip to Barcelona , just until yesterday i took again my PC and started to use the last version of the WIP Grasshopper for Rhino and even do it is at its 0.5 version the functionality of it its amazing i can´t wait to see what it will be capable of once the 1.0 is ready, i have been playing around with the Bounding Box and Morph Box components and i have found them very useful , here is a quick render of an excercise i did for a Workshop I am planing to give before i go to Spain.

parametric structure exercise

The other day i was watching some documentaries of Calatravas´s work ,suddenly I took a piece of paper start doing some lines then I passed them into rhino , made a Grasshopper definition and here are some of the results i got, its amazing what you can achieve by using parametric systems in terms of variability and speed of design all the models shown here were made in just a couple of hours once I got my definition made It allowed me to control de radius of the diferent srtucture parts as well as the number of sections among some other things,if you want to understand better the process I went trough please watch this video

parametric facade experiment

This a project i developed with some architecture students of the ITESM , the objective was to develop the facade of a building under certain parametric conditions which had to deal with the building itself and the urban landscapes that surround the area. The idea of the project is to make some apertures on the facade by linking parametrically the building with the other landscapes.
So depending on the distance that its between the building and the local landscapes the apertures respond in amplitude, in other words if the building its near to a landscape the apertures go wider and if it is the opposite the apertures go narrower.

To achieve this i made a grashopper definition wich infuence a set of curves with a repulsive behaivior , linked to a set of points wich represent the other buildings , this points affect the curves depending the distance that there is between each of the curves and the evaluation point.

parametric facade study

The objective of this project is to develop the exterior facade of a building under certain parametric conditions, the intention is to generate some apertures from flat components depending from the distance that is between the building itself and the landmarks that are located in the area.More info about this project on the next post.

parametric patterns

This is a quick experiment developed in grasshopper for making parametric field patterns the intention of this study was to identify and interconnect different parameters that allowed to form complex patterns on surfaces , this experiment may have different applications for various design purposes like urban landscaping for example. Any questions regarding this project please contact me.
